...before we move on to other things.
Before we headed to Boston for Christmas with the Birds, I was fortunate enough to have sisters around to help introduce Fiona to some Deacon traditions as well. We got some extended quality time with Mara for a few days. It was so fun to have her around during the days with Christmas music playing and wrapping presents. It was almost like our "vacation" started early. Late one night we decided to make sugar cookies. It's a lot harder to decorate all of them when there are only two of you, so lucky for us Bess' plans changed so she could come over the next day to help finish. Fiona was very excited when she woke up in the morning to such pretty cookies...but even more-so when she joined us to finish the job the next day. I didn't think she'd last more than 10 minutes, but she sat there for over an hour and half...very patiently...watching, helping, and eating/licking surprisingly little.
Then it was off to Boston! We'd been talking for weeks about going on the airplane to Nanny and Papa's for Christmas, and you should have seen her face when she recognized Papa at the airport!
It snowed the night we got in which was perfect because the next day Fiona got to do this for the first time:
And let me tell you, she LOVED it. It was far too chilly for me to go out, but from what I heard of "outside, snow, snowballs, snowman, boom with dada" and the like for the rest of our trip, she was in heaven. (Sidenote: I think she was very confused when we got back home to some unseasonably warm weather and I asked her if she wanted to go outside. She expectantly said, "Snow?!"...she didn't even need a coat.)
She was also pretty excited that to top off the wonderful snowy adventure she got this:
It was so nice to spend time with Steve, Cindy and Abby too! I think we spent most of our trip cozying up to the fire and enjoying delicious food. Luckily it snowed again and finally got me outside. And Fiona got to build another--and better--snowman.
And how cute is this?!
Everyone put on their best for Christmas Eve mass and of course we had a nice little party afterward.
Christmas morning was full of Santa, stockings and presents.
I know it wasn't her first Christmas, but it was so fun having Fiona get so excited about everything for the first time this Christmas. Obviously presents and what not are a given, but she was so innocently delighted every time she saw Christmas trees, Christmas lights, Baby Jesus, reindeer, candy canes, Mary, Joseph, shepherds, sheep, mangers and more. Sometimes I'm still in awe of how much better she has made/continues to make our lives!
We had such a great time--getting snowed in and all--and are so thankful to Nanny and Papa for everything. We love you guys, and can't wait to come back this summer!!
