Today, while I was rocking Evie in our room, Fiona was quietly reading books when she frantically stood up sweetly saying "Don't fuss, don't fuss." I was confused--because Evie was contentedly falling asleep--until she started running into the kitchen saying, "Don't fuss, Elmo. I'm comin' to get you." When she got back she was shushing him and rocking him asking what was wrong. Eventually she put him in his Bumbo, gave him some juice and started reading books to him. (She's obsessed with the beautiful pop up dragon book Nanny gave her.) As she was reading it on the floor she said, "Wanna see?" and proceeded to shove the book in his face so he could see the pictures. Then he got fussy again, so she asked him if he wanted a NUK--which apparently he did--because after that she said, "There, that's better."
I'm not nearly a good enough writer to capture the sweetness of the scene, and really wish I could have gotten it on camera, but hopefully this will help jog my memory down the road.
