Worrying about jealously

For the most part, I haven't been too concerned about Fiona adjusting to #2's arrival.  In fact, I think in most regards, she will be thrilled to have a baby at home to help out and "play" with.  (Yes, I am prepared to eat my words in the coming months...)

Getting her new favorite toy stolen away, however, may change everything.

My how she's grown!

Uncle Aaron

We've been so fortunate with visitors lately!  Nothing to keep your mind off being 9 months pregnant like family to hang out with.  Anyway, just before the Steve birds visited, Aaron was in town on business.  He came over and hung out all afternoon one day (bearing a huge bag of Caroline hand-me-downs---thank you Kate!!!), and I got to go out later that night for drinks.  Initially Fiona was a little unsure about him, but she warmed up a bit before she went to bed that night and even gave him a kiss and hug goodnight.

Unfortunately, his trip was cut short due to the ridiculous weather we had in early February, and that was the last we saw of him.  Until he came back through this past week and we met up for lunch.  When Fiona saw him she ran right up to him saying, "Uncle Aaron!" and gave him a huge hug...that lasted from the parking lot, through the restaurant until we sat down and then some.

What is it about seeing your siblings with your kids?  Adorable.

Great seeing you Aaron!  Wish it could happen more often!

"Watch this!"

I have no idea where this came from.  I definitely don't encourage jumping on furniture...heck I don't even let her stand on it.  But the other day when I went to get Fiona up from her nap, she said, "Watch this! (which had me in stitches because she's NEVER said that before, and I have no idea where she learned it) Ready? Go!" and proceeded to bounce and bounce.

Seriously, where did she learn this?  And she seems legitimately proud or herself for figuring it out.

Ah!!  I love her so stinking much!!

The Phoenix Birds

Stevie lucked out and and got to come to Dallas for a "work" trip...and lucky for us Cindy and Abby decided to come along too!  Fiona and I had a lovely Friday morning hanging out with Cindy, Abby and Leah.  Friday night, the Bird boys went on a mini bar crawl in downtown Grapevine while the little girls played and Cindy got stuck hanging out with two preggos.  In all seriousness, it was a lovely night!

Saturday night everyone hung out at our place and Joe and Becca made fried shrimp po' boys--DELICIOUS!  In typical me fashion I didn't get any pictures of grown ups.  But they wouldn't have been nearly as good as these anyway, so I'm over it.

I love these little munchkins!

So good to see you guys!!

ABCs

So, this is a terrible example, but this very particular little girl isn't the most compliant about performing on demand.  In fact, I often find out exactly how much she really does know by eavesdropping on her playing all by herself, in bed before she's fallen asleep or after she wakes up and is hanging out playing with her Baa Baa or other bed toys. But since this baby is due any minute now, I figured this might be the best I'll get anytime in the near future.

Since I abandoned the baby book long ago, I figured it should at least be noted that she can do them all by herself---start to finish.  Just not when you ask her to.

A long couple weeks...

The flu decided to pay a visit to Fiona and I over the last couple weeks, and to be completely honest, it was miserable.  I don't know if it was the particular strand (H1N1) or what, but never again will I thumb my nose when Fiona's pediatrician recommends a flu shot.  In fact, I might even get her one...and myself while I'm at it.

On the bright side, I got it first.  And rather than sitting around most of January waiting to have a baby, I got to be thoroughly impressed with Fiona's ability to entertain herself--thus making me much less nervous about how she'll cope with not having my attention 24/7 once the newbie arrives.

See?

Sadly, Fiona got sick too.  I seriously didn't know it was possible for a kid to get sick and have a fever over 104 for EIGHT days.  Seriously?!  Between that, her ever-runny nose and inability to sleep because of her terrible cough, I've never been sadder for her.  Again, on the bright side, it came and went before the new baby, so I got to devote 100% of my time to babying my first baby for what may very well be the last time.  :(

And she really was a trooper.

After spending over a week and a half indoors and quarantined, Dallas decided to have real winter.  In all the years I've lived here, I've never seen anything like it.  Schools were closed for 4 days straight and roads were sheets of ice for days on end.  So ironically enough, we were still stuck at home.

But we could do this:

And thankfully the next afternoon most of the snow (and ice) melted, and now life is almost back to normal...even if it is unseasonably cold for Dallas.

Come on baby!

Bits and Pieces

Heard from Fiona this morning while looking down at her feet (with a 104 fever nonetheless):

"Hello, monkey slippers!  How are you?  Good?  Good."

---

Getting in the car:

Fiona:  Twinkle Twinkle?  Round and Round?
Me: Hold on.
F:  I'm workin' on it.

---

Digging through my mess of a purse while holding Fiona outside of the car:

Me:  Argh.
Fiona (without me having said anything else):  Hmmm...where'd the keys go?
